Child & Adolescent Services

Navigating psychiatric, behavioral, or substance use challenges in children or adolescents can be one of the most overwhelming and emotionally difficult experiences a parent or caregiver may face. At SUN Behavioral Health, we understand the uncertainty—and we offer hope. Our compassionate and experienced team is dedicated to identifying your child’s unique needs and providing evidence-based treatment options that support lasting recovery and healing for the entire family.

Our Adolescent Programs are specifically designed for ages 12 to 17 who are experiencing psychiatric crises or ongoing mental health challenges. These programs provide structured, age-appropriate care in a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes healing and growth while using the least restrictive interventions possible.

Inpatient Program for Children and Adolescents

When safety is a concern—such as risk of self-harm, harm to others, or significant psychiatric distress—our inpatient program offers 24/7 intensive support in a secure, therapeutic environment. This highest level of care provides immediate intervention and comprehensive evaluation.

Key features:
  • Our programs help adolescents stabilize crises, re-engage with school, and rebuild family relationships
  • 24/7 nursing care and medical supervision
  • Individualized treatment planning
  • Group and family therapy (as clinically appropriate)
  • Evidence-based therapies including CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care
  • Medication management by board-certified psychiatric providers
  • Recreational therapy, mindfulness, yoga, and expressive arts
  • Addiction education and relapse prevention (for dual diagnosis patients)
  • Discharge and aftercare planning

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Adolescents

Our partial hospitalization program, for ages 13 to 17 years old, is an ideal next step for adolescents discharging from inpatient care or for those requiring a higher level of support than traditional outpatient services. The partial hospitalization program allows adolescents to receive intensive treatment during the day while returning home in the evenings to a safe, supportive environment.

Program highlights:
  • Structured programming up to five days a week, six hours per day
  • Evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, coping skills development
  • Ongoing psychiatric oversight and medication management
  • Emphasis on academic support, peer interaction, and family engagement
  • Comprehensive assessments and individualized discharge planning

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Adolescents

Our intensive outpatient program is designed for adolescents who are discharging from partial hospitalization or who need more support than once-weekly outpatient therapy can provide. This program offers flexible, focused care while allowing participants to maintain their regular school and home routines.

Program Highlights:
  • Three group therapy sessions per day, three days per week
  • Evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, coping skills development
  • Ongoing psychiatric oversight and medication management
  • Emphasis on peer interaction and family engagement
  • Comprehensive assessments and individualized discharge planning
